Obituary for Randall J. "Randy " Schmidt

Randall John Schmidt, age 56, lost his valiant battle with CJD at Francis House in Syracuse, NY on March 21, 2021.

Randy graduated from Cheshire High School in 1983 and Providence College in 1987. Randy always worked hard; he was a sales and marketing professional. Beginning with his own lawn mowing business which he started in high school and ran through college, where he wore his trademark green Converse sneakers.

After college, Randy went on to work in both field and inside sales, primarily in the financial and information technology marketplace and later in the hospitality industry.

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Maureen McGarry Schmidt; both his maternal and paternal grandparents and his nephew, Jameson John Schmidt.

He leaves his siblings Tracy Schmidt Ajello and her husband Carl, Karyn Schmidt, and David Schmidt and his wife Annamaria, nephews Jackson Ajello, Conner and David Schmidt and many friends and relatives.

The family would like to thank the staff of Crouse Hospital and Francis House and the many family and friends who supported Randy during these last months including Pat Monahan, Matt Corcoran, John Baker, Lynn McGarry Hartnett and Patty McGarry Wessel.

His cousin Lynne summed up Randy perfectly when she said, “Randy brought fun, love, and laughter wherever he went. He was brilliant, witty, loyal and had a laugh that filled your soul with joy. I will miss our talks, his kindness, and our friendship. He left us far too early. I hope that tonight he finds himself at an Irish bar in heaven hoisting a cold one with our loved ones who went before him.”

A remembrance Mass will be held on September 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Bridget’s Church in Cheshire, CT.

Friends and family are invited to raise a Miller Lite or Orange Crush at the celebration of Randy’s life golf tournament fundraiser for the CJD Foundation and Francis House. The 9th hole shotgun start tournament and luncheon will be held at Sleeping Giant and Aunt Chilada’s in Hamden, CT on July 17, 2021. Please contact Tracy, Karyn, or David for ticket information.
