Obituary for Nina Joyce Brown

Nina Joyce (Potter) Brown, 83 of Syracuse passed away on September 12, 2022 at University Hospital.

Native of the Town of Lysander, Nina was a lifetime resident of the City of Syracuse and daughter of the late Martha Wells Potter.

Nina was known for her independent spirit, quick wit, sassiness, stubborn streak and the ability to “say it like it is!”. She was known as a “fashionista” and was always impeccably dressed (with her hair professionally styled) in her Alfred Dunner and Blair matching outfits with complimentary footwear and handbag. She loved her signature pink lipstick and Avon perfume and was always ready to go and see where the day lead her.

She was a force to be reckoned with and will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved her. When Nina walked in a room, people paid attention!

You may remember Nina from her over 50 years of working in a local dry cleaners in the Syracuse area including Swanson’s, Patrick’s and Elmwood Dry Cleaners. Once retired, she moved to Ross Towers and proudly guarded the desk for over 10 years until her health forced her to move to Sedgwick Heights, an assisted living facility in the City of Syracuse. While at Sedgwick Heights, she made herself known and she so appreciated all the kindness extended to her by the entire staff.

Nina had the heartbreak of losing three children, George Gates, John Webster and Darlene (Gates) Barzee but the joy of having many grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with her two surviving daughters, Sharmin (Ed) LeBlanc and Lorrie Webster; three siblings, Gary and Gordon Potter and Nancy Burdick and many nieces and nephews.

Per Nina’s wishes and strict instructions, there will be no services and she would like you to remember her with a smile and a wise-crack.

Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
