Obituary for Mary Margaret Sabel

Mary Margaret Sabel, 83 of Syracuse passed away peacefully on September 15, 2021 with her family by her side.

Native of Syracuse, Mary Margaret was the daughter of the late William A. and Mary (Jonas) Sabel.

Proud graduate of Assumption Academy, Class of 1956, she was a lifelong communicant of Assumption Church.

Mary Margaret worked for many years at the former J.F. Friedel Box Company and retired as a treasured Receptionist from the St. Francis Adult Day Care Program at the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse on Court Street.

A longtime volunteer, Mary Margaret was very active in many Assumption Church activities and groups including the Altar Rosary Society, Legion of Mary, St. Joseph the Worker Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Mary Margaret was a member of the LCBA (Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association) and the Order of Secular Franciscans and volunteer at Community Hospital.

Pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, William (Betty) Sabel.

Survived by two sisters, Sister Miriam Arthur Sabel, OSF and Sister Mary Bernard Sabel, OSF

Two nieces, Diane (Daniel) Daley and Jane (Keith) Bodah

Two nephews, Stephen (Margaret) Sabel and Michael (Tammy) Sabel

8 great nieces and nephews and 9 great-great nieces and nephews

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home, 900 N. Salina Street, Syracuse.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM in Assumption Church, 812 North Salina Street, Syracuse.

Please note, due to the ongoing pandemic, masks will be required at both the funeral home and in the church.

The Rite of Committal and Burial will be immediately following in Assumption Cemetery

The Sabel Family would like to express their gratitude to the Sisters of St. Francis for their support, kindness and assistance that they showered on Mary Margaret. The love and generosity shown to us is beyond words and we will be forever grateful.
