Obituary for Ida Mae Ryan

Ida Mae Ryan of Syracuse, wife, mother, grandmother, godmother and friend. Ida Mae was born to Lester and Elizabeth Loughnot on May 21, 1925 in the midst of the Roaring 20s but quickly learned the unique lessons of growing up in the Great Depression where Sunday meatloaf was the meal of the week.

She graduated from North High School and worked for Travelers Insurance and Pass & Seymour before marrying. After her children had grown, she worked as a lunch monitor at Webster School and greatly enjoyed the many children that she helped.

She married her life love, Bernard “Barney” Ryan on May 16, 1953, a day she often referred to as the best day of her life. Ida Mae and Barney quickly became parents to Thomas, Kathleen and Timothy. Nothing meant more to Ida Mae than her husband and children. She reveled in their successes and supported them through their most difficult times. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved to travel the world on cruises with Barney and to play cards (most especially pinochle) with family and friends. In her later years, Ida Mae loved spending time with her grandchildren, who she adored. Ida Mae was deeply loved by her family.

Her entire family thanks all of the health care providers at The Hearth at Greenpoint and Iroquois for their kind, compassionate and gentle care during her final days.

Ida Mae is predeceased by her parents, her husband and her infant son Kenneth Michael Ryan.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas B. (Denise) Ryan and Timothy P. (Margherita) Ryan, her daughter, Kathleen P. (Leonard) Kobuszewski, her grandchildren, Geoffrey (Tara) and Gregory Kobuszewski and Katherine Ryan.
