Obituary for Francisco "Poncho" Suarez-Zulueta

Francisco “Poncho” Suarez-Zulueta, 70 of Syracuse and formerly of Cuba, passed away on January 10, 2023 after a long illness.

Poncho was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States in the 1980’s.

Prior to his illness, Poncho worked as a cleaner at many different Syracuse area businesses including the Fish Cove in Shop City, the Dollar Tree in Shop City and a bakery in Lakeland. He was known as a hard worker with an interesting way of expressing himself and he always made everyone smile.

Pre-deceased by two brothers, Antonio Medina and Silvio Rodriguez, Jr.

Survived by his long time partner of 24 years, Rosa Acevedo.

Three sons, Johan Suarez, Francisco Suarez and Roman Acevedo

Two daughters, Gladys Suarez and Rosa Acevedo

Three brothers, Jesus Ponce, Lazaro Gonzalez and Barbaro Noda

Five sisters, Linda Ponce, Obdulia (Sterling) Brown, Caridad Batista, Virginia and Josefina

Three grandsons, Lazaro, Yofrem and Alexander Suarez along with21 step-grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; special son-in-law, Antoine and granddaughter and caregiver, Eli-Ja-Rose Acevedo

Visitation will be on WEDNESDAY, January 18, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home, 900 N. Salina Street, Syracuse.

Burial immediately following in Loomis Hill Cemetery, Syracuse

Poncho’s family would like to express special thanks to the SUNY Upstate Cancer Center, 4th Floor staff, along with Dr. Romovic and Chelsea Franz from Hospice of CNY for their care and concern for Poncho during his illness.
